Farewell to an ex-boxer.
Matt Moran passed away peacefully in hospital, on Mon 31 May 2010 age 96 years.
 
His boxing career started when he was 12 years old, he boxed in the great Len Johnson's  travelling fairground booth
Over the next few years he averaged 10 booth contests a week in various locations all over the North West and also in futher afield places like Wales, Newcastle and London.
 
Besides boxing in the booths Matt also worked down various Lancashire coal mines to earn money and to build his strength up.
 
As a pro he boxed (the original Fen Tiger) Eric Boon, former British Welterweight champion. He earned a great write up in the weekly trade paper "Boxing news" for his bravery and toughness.
 
Later on in life he had his own  travelling boxing booth, (Matt Moran's boxing booth) -- The list of Manchester boxers that boxed in his booth over a period of time reads like a Who's Who. -- Frank Johnson, Jackie Braddock, Tommy Proffitt, Dick Ashcroft, Jimmy Lewis, Andy Lambert, Len Cassy, Nevill Tetlow, Stan Skinkiss, Roy Richardson, Paul Dunne, Billy Shaw, Tony Lord, Kenny Danials, Harry Warner and Al Rocca.  
 
Matt had been a valued member of MEBA (Manchester Ex boxers Association) for around 25 years.
